Time blindness isn't a character flaw.

For self-directed learners, especially people with ADHD, it is hard to feel how long focused work really lasted. A browser can stay open for hours while real engagement is much shorter, and that gap quietly turns into self-blame. Most trackers count the open tab and call it productive. Honest Hour shows the difference, without the guilt.

Real activity detection

Tracks actual input across every frame on a page, so embedded editors and design tools count correctly.

Reading mode

Reading a long article without touching the mouse is still focus. One toggle pauses idle checks for 30 minutes.

Today's open versus active time, a 7-day history, and your top sites ranked by time you were really working.

A gentle nudge

After a quiet stretch you get a reminder, not a punishment. You choose how long the stretch is.

Study mode

Pick a duration and the sites that pull you away. They stay blocked until the timer ends.

A nudge in your own voice

Optionally record a short message once. It plays back locally and is never uploaded.

Nothing you do here ever leaves your device.

There is no backend for this extension to send data to. That is the whole design, not a setting.

We had it independently audited before submitting

A second person on the team reviewed the code as an outsider would. Here is what was found and fixed.

✓Hidden metadata in our icon files, including an ad-tracking ID, was stripped out.
✓Internal messages are now checked against the extension's own ID before anything acts on them.
✓Site names typed into the Study Mode blocker are sanitized before they are used.
✓The block page no longer sits at a fixed path a website could probe to detect the extension.

Install it in under a minute.

Honest Hour isn't on the Chrome Web Store yet, so you load it directly. It works in Chrome and other Chromium browsers like Edge and Brave.

  1. Download the ZIP and unzip it anywhere.
  2. Open chrome://extensions in your browser.
  3. Turn on Developer mode in the top right.
  4. Click Load unpacked and pick the folder that contains manifest.json.
  5. Pin the extension, click its icon, and open your dashboard.
